Über Matha Scheffel:
Die in Detroit gebürtige Sopranistin studierte
an der University of Michigan Schulmusik und
Gesang sowie Klavier, Psychologie und Englische
Literatur. Nach ihrem Bachelor-Abschluss mit
Auszeichnung erhielt sie ein Stipendium an der
Hochschule für Musik und Theater in München
und studierte bei Prof. Hanno Blaschke und
Prof. Margot Gerdes. Ihren Master für
Operngesang machte sie 1970 am New England
Conservatory in Boston. An die Wiener
Kammeroper 1971 war sie Königin in „Una Cosa
Rara“ von Vicente Martín y Soler. 1974-1976
tritt sie beim Opernstudio der Bayerischen
Staatsoper in München ihr Engagement als lyrisch-dramatischer Sopran für Nebenrollen an. Nach der Geburt ihrer beiden Söhne arbeitete sie weiterhin freiberuflich als Sängerin. Eine Japan-Tournee führte sie 1990 mit der Partie der Michaela aus Bizets „Carmen“ nach Asahikawa, Hokaido. 1994 trat sie als Solistin in Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdys „Elias“ im Space Center in Tokio und mit einem Liederabend im Duett mit John de Haan von San Francisco auf. In Wagners „Ring des Nibelungen“ an der Seattle Opera 1995, sang sie die Partien der Freia, Ortlinde und Gutrune und war die Stellvertretung der Sieglinde.
Von 2000-2005 unterichtete sie Gesang für die Internationale Meisterklassen in Prag. Dort sang sie, u.a. einen Liederabend im Mozart Museum, Bertramka. Heute ist Martha Scheffel Stimmbildnerin und Solistin zweier Gospelchöre: Mit „Albert C. Stimmliche und musikalische Weiterentwicklung nimmt für Martha Scheffel bis heute einen hohen Stellenwert ein: Bis 1995 nahm sie weiterhin Unterricht bei Prof. Margot Gerdes (Hochschule für Musik und Theater München); seitdem wird sie von Anna Reynolds und Jean Cox in Bayreuth stimmlich betreut. Zwischen 1976 und 1995 wurde sie in Korrepetition an der Staatsoper München u.a. von Dietrich Villbrandt und Richard Trimbourne unterrichtet. Sie ist immer wieder in unterschiedlichsten Soloabenden, Opernkonzerten und Auftritten als Solistin geistlicher Musik in den USA, Deutschland und Österreich zu sehen. 1979 rief sie zudem das „Musikstudio Scheffel“ ins Leben, ihre eigene Musikschule, in der sie bis heute Kinder in musikalischer Früherziehung mit Orff-Schulwerk und Zoltan Kodaly sowie in Blockflöte und Gitarre unterrichtet.

The soprano Martha Scheffel studied school music and voice at the University of Michigan as well as piano, psychology and English literature. After graduating with an honors Bachor degree, she earned a year’s scholarship to study voice at the State College for Music and Theater in Munich with Prof. Hanno Blaschke and Prof. Margot Gerdes. In 1970 she studied further for her Masters at New England Conservatory in Boston. At the Wiener Kammeropera (1971), she sang the role of the Queen in “Una Cosa Rara”by Vicente Martin y Soler. 1974-1976 she was engaged in the Operastudio of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich as a lyric-dramatic soprano for supporting roles. After the birth of her two sons, she worked fürther as a free-lance soloist. On a tour of Japan in 1990, she sang the part of Michaela in Bizets “Carmen” in Asahikawa, Hokaido. 1994 she sang as solist in Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdys “Elias” in the Space center of Tokio and in a Duo Art Song Evening with John de Haan from San Francisco. In the production of Wagners “Ring des Nibelungen “ at the Seatle Opera in 1995, she sang the roles of Freia, Ortlinde and Gutrune and understudied for Sieglinde.
From 2000-2005 she taught voice at the International Masters Classes in Prague and sang a solo Art Song Concert at the Mozart Museum, Bertramka. Between 1976 and 1995 she coached at the Bavarian State Opera, Munich, with Dietrich Villbrandt and RicharTrimbourne, among others. She presently appears as soloist for various concerts (opera, art song evenings, sacred music, gospel/jazz) in USA, Germany and Austria. In 1979 she opened her own music school, “Musikstudio Scheffel”, in which she still teaches children music education including “Orff-Schulwerk” and Kodaly, as well as recorder flute and guitar.
